About VOICE 2010
The VoiceOver International Creative Experience (VOICE) began as an idea in the mind of Penny Abshire around 2002. Her idea was to bring the fragmented world of voiceover talent together in an effort to build a community of like-minded creative performers. In November, 2006, Penny and James Alburger were introduced to Frank Frederick (the 3rd founder of the conference) and over the next five months the original VOICE 2007 conference was put together with the intention of creating a one-time-only event. In March, 2007 135 voice actors traveled to Las Vegas to attend the first-ever conference dedicated to raising the standards of voiceover through a combination of education, technology and community. During the ensuing year and a half, James and Penny built on the experience of VOICE 2007 and developed what has become the major voiceover event – the VOICE Conference.

In August, 2008, more than 500 voiceover professionals, aspiring voice actors, equipment manufacturers, and support services attended the second VOICE conference in Los Angeles. It was clear that talented performers at all levels of experience wanted to meet their peers and be part of something that takes their work well beyond the confinements of their home studios. Attendees traveled from nine countries to attend, and many of the biggest names in the world of voiceover participated in various conference programs or attended the pre-conference Red Carpet Reception.

Because the information taught at VOICE is applicable for all types of actors and performing artists, we anticipate a much larger attendance at VOICE 2010. With the economy as it is today, it’s more important than ever to be armed with accurate and actionable information and skills – and this is exactly what conference attendees get when they attend VOICE.

For VOICE 2010 we’ve chosen mid week dates for the conference because we can get a better deal on the hotel rooms, and by ending on Saturday night, you’ll have Sunday free to see the sights of Los Angeles, or as a travel day. If you were at VOICE 2008, you know that the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is a perfect hotel for our event. For VOICE 2010 we’ve once again been able to negotiate an excellent room rate with the hotel.

“The VB AMP Box™ is a well-built system to control loud sound. It is a necessity for maintaining civility even while you play rowdy” said Barry Rudolph for his review of VocalBooth.com’s VB Amp Enclosure™

VB AMP Box™ is a portable amplifier enclosure for the sound isolation of guitar amps or cabs. With it you can play loud enough to get your favorite tones and record them in the same room as your studio.

A VB AMP Box™ has four fabric-covered sides and top plus a sound insulating foam-line base that all assemble together in about 15-minutes. They lock together using Velcro® straps and there is a convoluted foam-lined interior, a cable port and plenty of remaining space for a microphone and stand. The VB AMP Box™ ventilates heat buildup from your amp using a fan attached to a piece of flexible exhaust hose. VB also makes the VB Speaker Box™ the same size as the AMP Box but with no ventilation and a lower price.

I joined owner Gary Belz, chief engineer Doug Tyos and guitarist Bill McBee at Belz’ House Of Blues Studios in Encino, CA to test their well-used Model AMP-4040V Large Amp Box. McBee played a Strat into a Mesa Electra Dyne head and a dual-twelve Mesa speaker cab placed inside the VB Amp Box™.

We found the sound was greatly reduced in level while listening in the room–about the same as playing through your amp while using form-fitting earplugs. Yet we got the same sound as without the AMP Box when we angled the cab 45-degrees off the inside of the front panel. We were careful to play at the same level with exactly same placement of the studio’s Shure SM-57.

There are four sizes of VB AMP Boxes™ available each designed for any size amp or cabinets up to a Marshall 4 X 12. The VB AMP Box is perfect for studio use and for late night jamming when the rest of the world is sleeping. For much more information and pricing, go to: www.vocalbooth.com.

Matt Parmenter of Ice Cream Factory Studios is the winner of the 35th Anniversary Breedlove Acoustic Guitar.

VocalBooth.com™ accepted entries at the recent NAB show, online and via email. Matt was picked at random out of approximately 500 contestants. VocalBooth™ would like to thank all participants and ask that they check back for any future contests.

Included with Matt’s entry he provided the following image and review.

I wish I could be at the NAB show, but I’ll have to settle for entering via email.

The real question should be – “How are you NOT using your VocalBooth”?

Mine is a 12×12 with two small windows and one large window. It’s set up in the living room of my apartment, which always blows people’s minds when they see it. Besides being the live room for all the jazz, pop and indie rock recordings I do, it’s also the practice room for my band (www.quietcompanymusic.com), the practice room for my amazingly talented Welsh friends (www.toyhorsesmusic.com) when they’re in the U.S., and several of my friends have used it as a nice, quiet bedroom when they’re staying in town. It gets rave reviews as a place to sleep. A friend of mine slept through a violent thunderstorm and had no idea that it was happening until I said something about the weather.

I was able to find a spot with some almost effect-like bass buildup in one of the corners of the room when tracking a jazz player on his double bass, which really added a nice thick flavor to the direct and close mics. I was also able to track a kick drum from 10′ away using a Neumann TLM193 to get a huge marching drum sound, and thanks to the quietness of the room there’s no appreciable noise added to the track.
Just big, boomy kick. I have recorded a small choir of 10 people, an accordion, a chorus of kazoos, trombone, trumpet, violin, glockenspiel and classical guitar, and every track has come out sounding amazing.

Thank you again for helping me out with parts when I’ve needed them. I look forward to using your booths for years to come.

– Portable Sound Isolation Company Grows in Popularity with Christian Broadcasters and Churches Alike –

2010 NAB Show, Las Vega, NV — Worship leaders and broadcasters worldwide are discovering the benefits of their VocalBooths™ from VocalBooth.com™. With audio and video technology sales soaring in the house of worship market, VocalBooth.com™ is realizing a rise in sales with their portable sound enclosures—VocalBooths™, as well as with their VB Amplifier Enclosures™.

The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL purchased a 4’x6’ Platinum VocalBooth™ with Auralex interior. Their technical director, Matt Glover, reports that the addition is allowing the music ministry to offer their congregation “a song a week” with a high quality sound. Fellow Alabama company, Moody Broadcasting bought a 12’x16’ Gold Series VocalBooth™ and a 12’x14’ Gold Series VocalBooth™. “We are using one as a control room and the other as a production suite,” said chief engineer, Paul Lierman. He also reports that their Praise & Worship, Majesty Radio, and Proclaim! channels are aided greatly by this purchase.

VocalBooth.com™ is also providing sound solutions with their VB Amp Enclosure™ for churches that use amplified instruments during rehearsals, recordings and live performances. Chip Demetri, the worship leader from Norkenzie Christian Church in Eugene, Oregon says their VB Amp Enclosure™ has made a significant impact on their practices as well as their worship experience. “The VB Amp Enclosure™ allows us to control the volume and still get a great sound. We have had it close to a year now and are thrilled with the improvements it has made to our worship environment.”

Dave Sabastian Williams shows many VO talents how to just stay home.

Dave Sabastian Williams, a renowned voice talent since the 1970’s and owner of Dave & Dave Studios in Los Angeles, is active in showing voice over actors in the Los Angeles and New York markets the best way to create a studio in their home. There are a variety of things that Williams advises when helping clients become more efficient, but the core of every studio that he installs is a VocalBooth™ from Vocalbooth.com™.

“Sound enclosures are not all created equal. A key component to building the perfect room with quality sound reinforcement is having a sound enclosure that makes it possible to limit sound leakage. Vocalbooth.com™ makes that product,” said Williams.

William’s wildly popular voice talent studio, Dave & Dave in Los Angeles, has been the site for numerous legendary voice-overs throughout his extensive career including spots for Wiener Schnitzel, Gold Circle Stores and Builders Emporium. Williams served as the voice of most of the “John McCain for president” ads that ran on TV and radio.

Williams helps voice talents that are just starting out or those beginning to hit their stride. He has been instrumental in the consultation and installation of multiple home studios which allow these actors to increase their productivity by not wasting time on travel. “We really try to give back to our industry,” he says. “I enjoy being able to guide voice talents that might benefit from my experience and what I have learned.”

Williams cites LA traffic and tight turn-around schedules as two of the reasons why it is becoming more common for a voice talent to work from home. “It is so easy now to work with a producer and/or director via ISDN and not even have to leave your home.”

Williams recalls advising voice talents in the beginning stages of their career where they regularly cut their scripts in a closet. “When they are ready….we get them out of the closet and into a VocalBooth™!”

VocalBooth.com™ will be exhibiting two of their booths at the NAB Show 2010 in Las Vegas at booth space #SL8510. They will also be providing the working studio for attendees to use and test drive a VocalBooth™ at VOICE 2010 the first week of June in Los Angeles.

—Moody Broadcasting, ESPN and Sirius XM Radio Are Among the Companies Choosing VocalBooth™—

2010 NAB Show, Las Vegas, NV – Right here in Vegas Donny Osmond is broadcasting his daily radio show, “The Donny Osmond Show” from a VocalBooth™ at the Flamingo Hotel where he and sister Marie have their nightly shows. He says that the 4’x4’ VocalBooth™ he bought doubles as an excellent solution for capturing his vocals, for his upcoming record that he is currently recording with his sister, as well as where he can comfortably broadcast his radio show.

Less than a year ago Moody Broadcasting also purchased two VocalBooths™. Moody reaches audiences around the world while bringing compelling, substantive content and music through their Praise & Worship, Majesty Radio, and Proclaim! channels.

Paul Lierman, who serves as their chief engineer for the Moody Radio South division in Northport, AL raves about the two booths they bought. In June they purchased a 12’x16’ Gold Series VocalBooth™ and a 12’x14’ Gold Series VocalBooth™. “We are using one as a control room and the other as a production suite,” he said. “We have been very pleased. All the comments from the staff have been very positive.”

Lierman said that he did consider the other products on the market that would be viewed as competitors of VocalBooth.com™. “I just really felt that the overall design of the VocalBooths™ was better…it impressed me. The convenience aspect is also attractive to us. It was easy to put together.”

VocalBooth.com™ will be showcasing several of their VocalBooths™, as well as their popular VB Amp Enclosure™ at NAB 2010. The VocalBooth.com™ exhibitor booth space is SL8510.

–Pop Stars, Broadcasters, Major TV & Film Studios are Choosing VocalBooth™ for their Sound Isolation Solution–

2010 NAB Show –VocalBooth.com™ has had an unprecedented year of growth in a time of a shrinking economy and ever changing audio climate. The wildly popular portable sound isolation booths are attracting recording artists, film and television studios, as well as many broadcasting companies. Artists like Sheryl Crow, Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas, as well as broadcasters such as ESPN, The Golf Channel, PBS and Sirius Satellite Radio have all experienced why VocalBooth™ has become the premier sound enclosure available.

“What is really encouraging to us as a company is how diverse our client base has become with high profile individuals purchasing VocalBooths™ for a variety of uses. It tells us that the VocalBooth™ is being recognized as the preeminent sound enclosure,” said Guy Coleman, director of sales and marketing for the Bend, OR based company.

“Sheryl Crow recently recorded the vocal track for a song on Cougar Town in a VocalBooth™ and it was a great experience for all”, said Joe Foglia of Southeast Audio Services who purchased a 10 Carat Diamond Platinum VocalBooth™. Foglia does the ADR for the ABC show that Crow guest stars on. He explains, “Jason Miller, Chief Engineer of the Golf Channel first told me about VocalBooth™. I looked at others on the market but the VocalBooth™ quality was better.”

The word is spreading about the quality and service we are providing at VocalBooth™ and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down,” said Coleman.

Bend, OR — As the music retailing landscape continues to change, one company, VocalBooth.com™ is making a significant impact on the growth of several major stores.

Music stores across the country are recognizing the profitability of in-store music instruction programs. Lack of space and sound control in the past has been a deterrent but no longer. Nick Rail, from Nick Rail Music, says the Bend, OR based company VocalBooth.com™ sound room offered the features most important to them—modular with portability and at the best price. “We considered two other vendors during our selection process but went with VocalBooth.com™. The overall service was absolutely impeccable.”

Rail bought six booths in various sizes ranging from 6’x7’ to 8’x10’ for his stores that are throughout Southern California. His seven stores, established in 1986, are the state’s premier music dealers for schools. Rails is utilizing the VocalBooths™ as music lesson rooms for his growing customer base. “Prior to using VocalBooth.com™ we’ve always built our own studios at a significant cost. With VocalBooth.com™ our ‘construction time’ was cut down to just a couple hours per studio,” he marveled. “Our new VocalBooths™ belong to us, not the landlord. The studios can be disassembled, moved and reassembled with little effort in the event we want to redesign floor layout or move to a different location.”

Rail feels that his music lesson program is held in higher regard as a result of the professional appearance and soundproofing capabilities the VocalBooths™ provide.

Colleen McCormick, of Lamorinda Music in Lafayette, CA echoes Rail’s praise of VocalBooth.com™ saying, “We installed three booths 8’x8’, 8’x10’, 8’x12’ in our music store. We use them for private lessons with our loud instruments such as drums, woodwinds, and brass.” She continues, “We wanted to soundproof the studio spaces and this seemed like a good solution because we could customize the space and could re-arrange the studios, or add-on in the future. We also liked the ability to take them with us, or sell them, if we ever changed locations.”

Lamorinda Music specializes in working with school bands but offers private instruction with quality instructors in their state-of-the-art studios anchored by the VocalBooths™. McCormick feels this is just another benefit that they can offer that sets them above their competition. “The instructors and students like them very much and they look great. We opted for the high ceilings and extra windows. We have the camel color. It is just perfect. We love them.”

VocalBooth.com™ will be exhibiting at Winter NAMM in booth #4334. For more information please contact Guy Colman, Director of Sales and Marketing at 541.330.6045.
