Leaf Blower Test

VocalBooth vs. Leaf BlowerWe recently received this audio clip from a new VocalBooth owner who was testing how his 5 Carat Platinum stood up to a leaf blower. He sent us the audio hoping that it would be useful to others in the VocalBooth Community.

We appreciate Greg doing this and asked him to give us a little more information about his recording setup- here is his response:
I have a Blue Bird large diaphragm condenser mic plugged into a Focusrite preamp.  I spent 20 years in radio (even built a station from the ground up) so I feel like I have a better than average knowledge of acoustics and audio quality.  I have been doing voice-over work in my home for the last 3 years.  I record mainly corporate work and medical narrations, with scripts that can run anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour in length, so the need for a consistently quiet recording environment is clear.  My clapboard frame house backs up to a very busy 4 lane road.  As my business grew,  so did the traffic noise.  It finally got to the point that I had to DO SOMETHING about it.  When I found a used VocalBooth 5 Carat Platinum Diamond booth for about half of the price of a new one, I jumped at the chance to get it.

I have been using the VocalBooth for about a month now and am very happy with how it reduces the noise getting to the mic.  It does not completely block the low rumble from lawn mowers and Harleys, but it does reduce their noise down to a barely audible level.  Noises in higher frequency ranges, like leaf blowers, crotch rockets, the TV in an adjacent room, and squeals from my beloved granddaughter, do not intrude.

One very pleasant surprise has been how well the ventilation system works.  I can stay in there for an hour or so before it starts feeling like I need to open the door.  I am not drenched in sweat like I have been in other booths, I just need to let in some more fresh air because it is getting a little stuffy.

Even though I purchased a used booth, everyone at Vocalbooth has been wonderfully helpful with all my questions.  It speaks well for a company that they treat me like family.  I am impressed with the quality and thought that has gone into the design of my Vocalbooth, and am very happy with my purchase.
